GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under limited supervision, the Configuration Management Specialist will work with Engineers, Technicians, and other support staff to maintain a baseline configuration for documentation, convert documentation into proper formatting, maintain document templates, maintain storage systems for files, drawings, Inspection Test Records, Non-Conformance reports and Operating/Maintenance Procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Supports MARS operations by reviewing and verifying that a baseline configuration for all documentation is maintained
  2. Adheres to configuration management plans, policies, and regulatory requirements
  3. Ensures proper configuration control by managing the state of documents, tracking change requests to documents, and following change control processes
  4. Prepares configuration status reports for stakeholders
  5. Assists with both internal and external audits of configuration items and their statuses
  6. Organizes MARS Configuration Management and archiving systems
  7. Labels, sorts and categorizes documents for ease of use
  8. Retrieves documents upon request
  9. Works with colleagues to ensure consistency of configuration management practices across the company
  10. Trains employees on efficient usage of configuration management systems
  11. Ensures documentation integrity and controls access to documents
  12. Works with Document Control to remove documents that are obsolete
  13. Utilizes storage software and applications for electronic filing
  14. Performs transcription and conversion work
  15. Proofreads documents upon request
  16. Other duties as assigned

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

General Education: Bachelor's of Science, Preferred                  

Major:  Technical (e.g. Engineering, STEM related)

Job-Related Experience:  In lieu of formal education, a minimum of 5 years of direct, practical work experience with Microsoft Office Programs, document development, document review, configuration management, and data management.

Certifications:  N/A  

Licenses, etc.: Valid driver's license is necessary when operating a vehicle while on agency business.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Knowledge:

Basic qualifications include a strong knowledge of systems engineering, engineering principals, technical documentation, version control, and general technical background. Preference for a candidate with knowledge of Configuration Management-related processes, AS9100 Quality Management Systems – Requirements for Aviation, Space and Defense Organizations, ISO 9001 – Quality Management Systems.

  • Experience working on systems engineering projects
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills                                                          
  • Organization and attention to detail    
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office or related programs                                                    
  • SharePoint experience preferred

Physical Demands: Work is light requiring lifting of computer equipment and involves typical office behaviors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  Position may travel between VCSFA sites. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

 

Work Environment:  Work is performed in a typical office setting.

Must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility for issuance of a NASA credential.

Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.
