Safety and Quality Intern
General Description
This position is located within the Safety and Quality Department of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport. The position supports safety and quality programs within a technical and operations environment related to Spaceport activities including rocket launch and unmanned aircraft systems, including support functions such as operations, engineering, and logistics.
Duties
Interns will participate in operations, learn safety training and implementation, institutional safety, programmatic safety with an overview of how the department supports the overall mission of the Spaceport. In addition, they will review program documents and regulations adhering to OSHA and FAA, environmental standards to environmental aspects such as our water permits and hazardous waste efforts, AS9100 and quality control, system safety to include high pressure and medium pressure and other hazardous systems and chemicals utilized in launch functions. Personnel will become familiar with facility safety and fire extinguisher/first aid kit/spill kit/eyewash maintenance and testing, as well as real time assessment of hazards in the field and during hazardous operations.
This position supports outdoor work in a hazardous industrial environment to include work hours outside the normal shift.
Qualifications
There is no previous experience required for this position.
Education
Must be currently enrolled in higher education.
