Airfield Operations Intern
Summary
Under supervision, this internship position assists with day-to-day operations and maintenance activities at the MARS Airfield, assist with coordination and communication for safety of personnel, equipment and efficient timely performance of activities. Helps ensure compliance with applicable processes, documentation, certifications, and regulations for operating a MARS site. Supports coordination with external customers and contractors with day-to-day operations, customer integration, and flight operations.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
1. Supports operational work activities, testing, maintenance, engineering work packages and requirement, including those for hazardous operations, requirements and integration, coordinate with security for operations and access control.
2. Prepares and completes required documentation.
3. Position works directly with customer, support contractors, and VCSFA technical and management staff in a team environment to ensure the successful integration and testing and operations.
4. Helps support operational activity schedules in coordination with MARS management, engineering, and support personnel to track operational activities.
5. Assists with coordinating with customer operational schedules and operations, providing timelines and de-conflicting customer operations with maintenance and support operations.
6. Supports airfield manager in conducting field inspections to assess conformance with design parameters, operational requirements, and identify deficiencies.
7. Support Site visits and tours for new business and future customers answering operational and technical support questions.
8. Aids if needed in overseeing or operating GSE, mobile equipment, site and customer specific support equipment such as forklifts, manlifts, tug, UTV, pickup truck, FOD sweep, anemometer, weather stations, cameras, tower support at minimum.
Qualifications
Job-Related Experience:
At least one year of direct, practical school experience with technical operations.
Certifications:
Must possess the aptitude and ability to achieve formal certification for the operation of various ground support equipment such as forklift, manlift, scissor lift, and will learn CFR rules for Aviationa and Uncontrolled Airfields.

Education
Enrolled in Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Technical, or other relevant field, or in work with a college-level technical degree program or certification program, 3rd or 4th year

Physical Demands:
The employee is regularly required to sit. use hands, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 40 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
The employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to risk of radiation and vibration. Work environment involves significant risks with exposure to potentially dangerous or extremely adverse conditions which require a range of safety and other precautions, e.g. fieldwork on launch pads, near high pressure and cryogenic systems, near extremely energetic materials. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather conditions. extreme cold (non-weather) and extreme heat (non-weather). The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
