Celebrating 30 Years of Excellence
It’s our 30th anniversary! On July 1, 1995, the Virginia General Assembly “determined that there exists in the Commonwealth a need to promote industrial and economic development and scientific and technological research and development through the development and promotion of the commercial and government aerospace industry” (Va Code Ann. § 2.2-2202). We are proud to say that we are delivering on what the Commonwealth tasked us to do. One part of our mission is to provide economic development. Through the creation of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport (MARS) and the aerospace industry that has grown around it, we have had a significant positive impact on the Eastern Shore economy and the entire Commonwealth year-over-year. Another part of our mission is to develop the next generation of aerospace professionals, and we do so through our STEM education programs. We offer a variety of STEM opportunities to students and educators from kindergarten through graduate studies including school visits, spaceport tours, high school and college internships, and partnerships with school systems, colleges and universities, libraries, and other education-focused organizations. We will continue to fulfill our commitment to the Commonwealth going forward.
Our Mission
To operate, maintain, and grow a premier spaceport for small and mid-class rocket systems to support flawless launch to orbit for government, domestic, and international customers. We strive to provide state-of-the-art, secure facilities for training and testing of unmanned systems and be a key driver of the Commonwealth’s economic development.
Our Vision
To be the premier spaceport, launch service provider, unmanned systems testing/training facility, and the #1 economic engine for job creation on the Eastern Shore. Virginia Spaceport Authority will be the first choice for assured access to space of government and commercial customers in the nation.
